Has a cute patch of pale skin around his left eye - - makes him look like a reverse dalmation

cute in an ugly kind of way!!

what is it? is it one of those xene whatsit toads

Lol

This is a Xenopus laevis (standard African clawed frog) in the colormorph piebald which occurs less than 8 times in a million.

He has a slight spinal twist at the base of his neck which makes him look like he is cocking his head

Is this your second piebald? Don't you have one with a smaller eye that didn't morph?

Either way he is way cute!

Just saw your other post sorry for your loss! I hope igor can put a little sparkle back in your eye

thanks. he is a sweetie. obviously he can't replace cyclone but it doesn't mean I can't care about a new frog.

due to his slight spinal deforming which gives his head that little "huh?" tilt he seems like he is always giving the confused lovable puppy-dog eyes....its impossible for me not to be completely smitten with him.

Igor looks really cute -tempted to get frogs but sadly no room for any more tanks (have 6 fish tanks+2 turtle tanks +axolotl)
Sorry to hear about Cyclone.I remember how excited you were when you got him. Are all piebald frogs deformed or is it just a coincidence?

it is just a coincidence - - their deformity reduces their value so people are willing to sell them. Still a gorgeous little frog in my eyes. Only way to get a "normal" piebald is to find one by chance because the petstore doesnt realize what they have (very slim because the supplier would then not have to know), have one occur from one of your own private breedings, or find someone willing to sell one for $$$

Well done for offering cosmetically challenged frogs a good home. He's gorgeous and I am sure will make a delightful pet. :good: Glad to hear that it's just a coincidence. I was afraid that inbreeding frogs to get piebald colour may have led to deformities like with some breeds of dogs and those poor deformed bug eyed fancy goldfish.

Piebald is not something controlled genetically - mating two piebalds together has no greater chance of yielding a piebald baby than if you mate albinos or naturally colored frogs

the second fish i ever got was an ADF and i didn't realize that they needed to breathe air (i was 9) but i didnt know you could take them out of the tank!

I am not trying at a to give an impression that you take these frogs out of the water and go play.

This is merely a method of taking better pictures if you hold the frog right above the waterline - this way you don't have to deal with as much glare interference when taking pictures.

I would only recommended this to people you are very comfortable and capable of holding these frogs without risk of dropping or squeezing.

With my older frogs I took time to condition them to being held and this in return taught me how to handle them in a manner that was not scary to the frog.

I am not suggesting for a second that people should start reaching in their tanks and taking frogs out.
