I have some question on meds about combinding them and such, and what you all have had success with...

What about Jungle Labs Fungus Eliminator? (especially with bettas)
Has anyone had success using QuickCure for getting rid of fungus or fin rot?
How about Maracyn or Maroxy?
Is salt effective for getting rid of fungus, or just preventing it?
Is non-iodinized salt a suitable substitute for aquarium salt?
I've heard collidial silver is a "miracle medicine" but does it actually get rid of parasites and bacteria? Anyone know how it works?

And what percautions should I take when combinding any of these is a ten gallon tank or a one gallon fish tank?

That's alot of questions... :S :S

Since I'm the only one who goes on & on about colloidal silver I'm assuming that I should be the one to answer that one :grr:

The only people I've suggested it to and know have tried it:Scarab,AquaNut & FishHeads have all said it worked....and YES,it really DOES. It works wonders. The basics to silver are: silver is a bacteria destroyer...it kills bacteria on contact. Doctors STILL use silver for burn victims because it kills bacteria without destroying tissue & they also use it for newborn babies eyes, the second a baby is born they put silver in it's eyes to destroy bacteria so it doesn't go blind or get an infection. I've heard it use to be the main antibiotic a long time ago,but during the depression silver became so expensive they created an alternative=penicillin (sp?)
and back in the old days settlers would put a silver dollar in their milk to keep it fresh while they travel across country. I've actually tried this...a small amount of milk with no silver and a small amount WITH silver...the milk without silver curdled and the milk with it didn't,because the bacteria that causes it to sour was destroyed in the one glass. Awesome huh?

As far as parasites go..colloidal copper would probably be more logical to use,but the two go hand in hand, a lot of parasites feed off bacteria and by using silver you kill the food source which in turn kills the parasite.

IME it's absolutely harmless and extremely helpful. Pretty pricey but a little bit goes a long way. It's just a mineral, a mineral that SHOULD be in our water and vegetables but people have robbed the earth of these minerals (so we can wear them  )

And by the way....NEVER use table salt, only aquarium salt

Well Im not familiar with a lot of meds available now, but I can say one thing, never ever mix them!!
Quick Cure is as good a bet as any when it comes to treating fish disease because unless your a vet, your ability to properly diagnose a disease is VERY limited. Take a good general cure like Quick cure, and leave it at that. Anything else when you arent sure what the disease is, is just shooting in the dark and when it doesnt work adding another med just stresses out the fish more, hastening death. Fish die, its the way it is. If you cant prevent a human from dying in all cases, you can bet your ass you cant do it for fish. The best policy is keeping the whole tank healthy with good maintenance and clean water rather than building up an arsenal of meds.
As for Silver, never used it but, in rivers and streams with high metal content, there are no fish, so while it kills bacteria Im not convinced it has no side effects.
BTW, thats where the phrase 'born with a silver spoon in his/her mouth' came from, only rich families could afford the silver spoons recommended by doctors for infants!

How much salt should I use for a tank that holds about 3/4 gallons of water? Should I dissolve it first (for example, put some tank water in a cup, add the salt, wait for it to dissolve, then add it back to the tank)?

How much of the collodial silver should I use for 3/4 gallons of water? I got a bottled of it today. It's 250 ppm, if that makes a difference.

Right now I'm just using the salt until I hear back...oh, I also got Marocyn, if anyone thinks that will be a better choice. (of course, I won't mix the meds though  )

Do you think it's alright that I'm using to QuickCure (for now) for a true fungus problem?

Good Point on the high metal content in streams, but the metal ions in silver are so small they're easily passed through the system. I have fish that have dealt with silver for over a year with nothing but positive results.
dix~ I wouldn't use any meds in his water while treating with silver....but I HAVE read that silver CAN be used with med's so it's really up to you. Try getting the fish to come to the surface and squeeze half a dropper directly on him, bettas will usually snap at the "brown water" which is great because it gets in their system faster ;)
