I just recently completed a Quick Cure treatment for ick. The ick is now gone and I was wondering if I should replace my sponge from my Aquaclear filter. The medicine has turned the sponge blue. Is this safe to use? I also use an ammonia remover. Should that be replaced also.

Thanks.

You should...I guess :dunno:
Why are you using an ammonia remover? Your filter should do all the removing for you

Even if the ammonia remover doesn't work, it a good place for the bacteria to go I guess. I've always wondered if it works. I use to use a sponge, carbon and the ammonia remover. Now I use two sponges and the ammonia remover. What do you use? Nobody has been able to give me an answer on the sponge.

Ohh that kind of ammonia remover, yes, that's the best thing that HOB filters have next to biowheel. I would definately leave it in as it's what will prevent your tank from a "re-cycle". You should replace your sponge every 3 months I think? I don't know since I use canisters.

Actually, I think the sponges should really never be replaced unless they get too clogged up. It would eliminate a lot of good bacteria. I usually just rinse it out in my tank water to get the crud out. How are the canister filters? I'm not familar with that type of filter. Are they easy to maintain? I'm pretty happy with the HOB filter I have.
