hey folks

well marine tanks up for sale, should go pretty soon i hope

i've done a bit of browsing to get some ideas on a new tank and
found the following appealing,
what do u think

just to re-cap, my tank is 120 imp gall 5 x 2 x 2 (less displacement)
so say 100 to 110 gall ( i also have a 30.gall sump which i have not yet decided to use or not)

lighting atm is arcadia twin m/h 250watt 14k lamps and two 4 foot blue actinic flo's

water flow is 2 x tunze streams (good circulation with these)

i like the idea of this black "Tahitian Moon sand" and "lace rock",
never heard of it before - any comments ?

as for inhabitants

here goes

cynotilapia afra 2:5
pseudotropheus acei 1:4
psudotropheus flavus 2:5
tropheus red cheek 1:4
labidochromus caeruleus 2:5
maylandia estherae 1:4
melanchromus johanni 1:4
labeotropheus trewavasee 1:4

1.are the stocking ratios ok ?
2.is the stocking level ok for 120gall (too many ? or can i cram a few more in ?)
3.is the compatability ok ?

any comments greatfuly received,

tia

I have no idea about stocking, but I just wanted to say that I too like the black "Tahitian Moon" sand and lace rock combination. Under the right light (which it certainly seems like you've got covered), even a smaller mbuna tank would look great. But at 120 gallons? Wow. That could be a legitimate replacement for the SW tank.

Still sorry you've got to tear that down. Great tank. But I look forward to seeing what you do with cichlids.

cheers m8

have'nt actually seen the sand or rock up close and personal, but i can picture it in my minds eye and it does sound kinda nice / unusual

i'm pretty keen/ excited about the tank, still a reef atm, need to shift the critters, corals and 70 kilo of live rock, then its all guns blazing

cheers

Sand and rocks are nothing more then personal opinion really. Lace rock often results in a lack of secure hiding spots, so try to create some truly out of sight caves for the weakest fish. In a tank that size your options are wide open, and there is no reason that your plan would not work. Naturally your m/f ratios are more hopeful then anything else with some of those species, as you will not be able to determine gender until you have had them for some time and let them grow out. With Lab. Caeruleus and Pseudo. Acei gender isn't very important anyway. You will also need to start off with more fish then this to gain an end result of what you are looking for in terms of ratios.

Good luck with it!
