My Mbu puffer died while I was away on holiday and I cant bear to restock his tank so I'm looking for a replacement :(

Has anyone seen any for sale anywhere recently?

there is plenty in the maidenhead aquatic stores by me at 50 to 90 quid, they have a chain of shops nearest to you would be northampton i think if they don't have one in stock they will send one from another store :0).

It's a fair haul for you, but sadly there were around 40 at £30 for around 3" at Wickford Aquatics in Essex a couple of weeks ago.

Sorry for the loss.

thats really sad, especially with such a big amazong specimen.

how big was he?
what was his name?
how big is ur tank?

atleast he didnt end up in my 10gallon tank

Aquatic Design Centre in London has some.

any idea why he died? R.I.P.

you could always see if your lfs will order one in for you.

he was about 14" and i had had him for just over a year from a weeny little puff, no idea why he died, he started to go dark instead of his normal yellow the week before my holiday and he stopped getting excited at dinner time but the water all tested normal & he had nothing wrong physically, then he stopped eating just before i left, and was found on his back after 4 days of me being away:(

poor puff:(

thanks for the replies though, i'll give maidenhead aquatics a try:)

125 quid is daylight robbery!!! u must have glass doors on your shop to see people coming lol.

You did know that MBU Puffers are brackish. Cuz that might have been one of the reason he died.

I'm sorry, but that is just flatly wrong.

Mbu puffers are pure freshwater puffers (Common name: Gian Freshwater Puffer)who will not survive lengthy exposure to brackish conditions. Even a tiny amount of research on this forum or the web would have told you that.

As a side note, they are also the largest growing of the freshwater puffer species reaching up to 24" (but I'm sure the original poster already knew this).

I wish you the best of luck finding one. They are a fantastic fish.

Maidenhead Aquatics seems to have gone Mbu mad, there were about 8, sad really since very few people can actually house them.

As andywg said, Mbu puffers are absolutely NOT brackish fish and are from the Congo basin and the African rift valley lakes particularly Lake Tanganyika.

I'm surprised you don't know that as African rift valley cichlids are your thing.
