My oldest cat is very skinny and has lots of sores. I don't have the money to take him to a vet so I'm tring to doctor him up myself. I have been putting cream on him, but today he had a big sore on is neck. Can anyone help. Yes I know to take to a vet I'm trying but it is hard. I have 2 other cats and I hope this doesn't happen to them. They do have fleas. Any help would be nice. Thanks

ok, i got 5 cats and all of them go the vets when they require it , just like we go the doc if we has sores all over us, the poor thing must be so uncomfortable too and i bet your other cat may catch it too if its something like mange which is a mite burrowing in to the skin which inturn irritates them and they scratch the fur out or it falls out due to an allergic reaction to it, and even worse you can catch some feline deseases too................would you like it? no nether would i :shout: any way im not being nasty at all just feel the need to tell you that there are places out there for those who dont have loads of money (myself included as it all gos on cat and fish food  ) we have the blue cross in England you will have your equivelent over your way.
What i suggest is to ware a pair of gloves when handleing the cat or wash your hands thougherly if the cat is placid try bathing him or her in cool salty water this will not do anything to reduce the sores but it will at least make him or her feel more comfortable do not attempt this if the cat is hostile or you might loose an eye  i also would de flea them all comb them through with a flea comb to get the buggers out as oftern as it takes to get shut of them it could also be a reaction to the bites he may be skinny because hes unwell as the fleas suck all the goodness out of him and he may be aneamic look out for white or receeding gums pale eyes the third eye comming accross and runny eyes and nose sneezing coughing , shaking of the head, walking low ( looking like he has belly ach kind of walk) and unkept fur these are all signs that a cat needs more help than you may be able to give, some vets let you have a tab where you can get treatment and pay in instalments, ive had to doit many times our Poppy thinks she can fly and has broken more bones than i can name and paying for operations for them to be reset or amputated is a big effort i know .How old is the cat?

Thank you. I have tried the vets but they won't take installments money upfront. I can't bath him he has open sores. I do use the comb. Thanks for the advice. Hope to find help can't really do anything it's the weekend. I will try Monday. Thanks

I know this is the english site but since ive had no luck trying to fine vet care thats free or has a payment plan for you. thought you might like to give it a shot its the PDSA ask a vet section you never know you might get some assistance with them hope i sent the link ok im hopeless with computers :look:
http://www.pdsa.org.uk/page90.html keep me updated on pussys recovery what type of cat is he? or is he just a normal moggy like my 5  cute furry and full of claws, good luck!

The problem is that sores are caused by everything from ringworm, to flea allgeries, to cancer, to FIV and FeLV, to fights... the list just goes on and on. Only a vet can tell you for sure what's going on, and he HAS to go. HAS TO. It could be signs of something severe, that can either be curable, contagious to your other two, or might make him suffer a slow death.

I'm not sure if I can post this, but in this area I could give a ____. Go to www.thecatsite.com/forums/ and ask there what kinds of programs are available in Canada for low-cost vet care. I can tell you how to do it the US, but I know that Canada has much different programs. England is the only country I know of that has a great system, other than a handful of large US cities. There SHOULD be a low-cost clinic in your area, and if that fails, start calling the humane societues, shelters, and rescues. There are tons of rich people who volunteer at these places, and sometimes they'll go out of their way to help.

Good luck!

He's doing better. Just waiting for the sores to heal before I give him a bath. I do know they have fleas. I have be putting a medicated cream on him and it's been helping. He is starting to heal, but slowly.
