Right, ok, i havent even set up my Orca TL450 yet (have to wait for room to be decorated) but i have been reading about breeding fish, and it sounds facinating. I gather that bangai cardinals and common clowns are the easiest to breed, and i know that clowns are easiest to sex as the dominant one turns female. Im not going to set up a breeding tank, but how could i maximise my chances of my fish having kids?

i have a tiny 14L thing which i could put a heater and an airpump and some water from my main tank for the fry (if im succseful) but what else would i need, not neccesaraly to guarentee theyll breed, but to maximise the possobility.

anyway, thanks

james :good:

buy a mating pair i saw one pair on ultimate reef of bangai

yer thats the easy bit lol. its bringing up the fry and ill need to buy a bucket, seeing as they didnt have one in the pound shop lol and another airpump to keep the rotifiers just for 3-4 days i think. Then i hnk i need fresh live brine shrimp. so ill need a small tank and a new airpump and a bucket and an airpump and some salt to get the sg right for the rotifiers and 2 heaters i think. i dunno what lighting the babys will need and i dunno what id do with the babys.
it will be hard work but id love to do it lol

Its very rare that clowns will without an anenome to host. And orca 450 is not a good place to have a nem either. It can also take a long time for clowns to mature as they are slow growers.

I bought a breeding pair of percs, they came from a tank that had a nem. They got too aggressive for the small tank they were in. I dont have a nem and they havent laid eggs in my tank at all

yer i read its about 3-4 years? I was thinking either wait it out, or get a pair from a owner shuttimg down a tank. Breeding fish isnt my main objective, the idea just came into my head 1 hour ago lol. if i was to are there any corals which the clowns may host in, that are easier to keep than nems??

thanks

Yes, mine host in duncans or a catalaphilya <- or however its spelt :p

They will host still like toadstools and long tenticled LPS corals too

Drop some alcohol in the water. Get them nice and drunk and they'll be popping out sprogs left, right and centre. Seems to work for the inhabitants of Jeremy Kyle show :fun:

i think my clowns could pass more exams than some of the inbreds on there though

lmao! by the way apparetly there is not a chance clowns will breed if there is a cleaner shrimp in the tank. i heard that clowns are protectinve over there young so you could keep them in te same tank until they get too big

lol i read the exact opposite? i read that cleaner shrimp may eat the eggs, and the fry need to be moved to their own tank? thats confusing
