How do I cool down the tempature in my tanks? It has been very warm here and my tanks are about the mid 80s. I don't know how to get the tempature down besides taking water out and putting cold water in. But it gets back up to the mid 80s within about an hour so I would have to do that all day.

How do I get the tempature down?? PLEASE HELP!!

Thanks!!!!

Well I live in Texas...So It gets pretty Hot LOL. 8)

Ok this is what I do. I get a water bottle and put cold water in it and freeze the water in my freezer. then I take out the bottle and put it in the tank I wait till my tank is the temp. I want it to be and take out the bottle and re-freeze it till I need it agian. It always works for me.!

When you do water changes try cooler water (but dont shock the fish do small water changes and add cooler water) Dont let the water your putting in make a drastic tempreture in the tank this may shock the fish and cause ICH and other illness which we dont want.

Or you could put in come ice cubes (I have not tried this though because ice water still contains chlorine and other heavy metals....)

Hope this helped! :D

i'm having the same problem. the temp in my tank actually reached 86 degrees last week. i was scared that my fish weren't going to make it. do you have air conditioner or fan in the room? turning off the light might help too if you don't have any live plants. when the temp got too hot, i floated plastic baggies with ice in them and they helped a lot. just keep changing the ice

Your tank heater does have a thermostat, right? (jsut checking!)

If you have some kind of electric fan thingy, open the tank lid, and direct the fan to blow across the surface of the water. If you've got air conditioning in your house, turning it on would obviously help, but I'm guessng you don't...

Otherwise, take some empty water/pop bottles, fill them with water, and freeze them. Then you can float them in the tank to cool it down. It's not a good plan to use loose ice because it could contaminate the tank (hasn't been dechlorinated for a start!)

good luck, and it's not a stupid question at all, it gets asked often.

I thought about making declorinated ice cubes and putting them in. so I guess putting some form of ice is really the only thing I can do to cool it off.

My husband and I do have AC but it doesn't help...we have to keep our bedroom door shut and locked so our room mate doesn't steal our stuff. And the AC is in the kitchen. :( We are hoping to go get a fan this weekend...I'll try to get a little one just for the tank.

My tank heater doesn't have a thermostat. It just has a little dile to turn it up or off. :/

I'll try the ice when I get home tonight.

Thank you guys!!!

Well if the hot weather is causing additional heating of the aqaurium, turn the heater off. Is there any chance you could get a new one with a thermostat cos it'll turn off when the tank reaches tha appropriate temp. so it doesn't keep heating it more till it reaches a dangerous temperature.

I don't even have the heater in my tank. I took it out about two months ago. I figured there was no point of keeping it in while it is so hot outside and warm in the house.
