hey!

right now im dealing with stupid ick, i have corals and snails in my tank... i took out the corals and placed them into another tank... i have fish, snails and liverock at this moment and wondering whats the best way to treat ich.

the only way im thinkin of is hyposalinity.. but wont that kill coralline algae and all the inverts, live sand, and liverock in my tank?

please help! thx

Yup, which is why you need to quarantine fish only and treat them seperately. Corals don't need to be removed from a tank with ich...

yah, as ski said, quarantine your fish, not your corals. Inverts are unaffected by ich.

Make sure when you do hyposalinity that you go down to about 1.009... anything higher is just a waste of time!

i had the same problem.. get a small quarantine tank asap..

what i did was buy a qt tank and kept the salt low at about 1.018 and i brought a small bottle of cuprazin which done the trick.. expect to quarantine them for a few weeks (5-6)

You need to first understand how the white spot parasite lifecycle works. There are loads of articles on the net so do some reading.

You will need to quarentine all your fish for at-least 8 weeks to ensure the parasite is completely eradicated and you will meanwhile need to keep your main display tank fishless for these 8 weeks as well (this is not a bad thing considering the amount of good a fallow tank does to your corals).

In the quarentine tank, you need to treat the fish with a copper based treatment and might need to repeat the treatment after 2-3 weeks. Having a UV or Ozone in the quarentine tank will help as these will both destroy the free floating forms of the parasite.
