Hi my dad is wanting to start up a marine aquarium again. he has buiilt many tanks before but never for himself so he was just wondering what thickness glass he would need if he was going to build a 180Lx90Hx60W cm

Regards jake

I would think it's the length and depth that will affect the glass. Now my 125L is 121cm long and that has 8mm thick glass. So I would suggest 10mm. Heavy, but safe. If I'm wrong I'm sure someone here will correct me. But I know one of my mates dad had a big discus tank, bigger than the proportions you're wanting and that was made from 10mm glass.

I'd say about 15mm thick glass just to be on the safe side even though 10-12mm should be sufficient! As its quite a long tank you should have a support brace all the way around the top of the tank with about 3 brace bars evenly spread out at every 45cm intervals ;) Its gonna be one big tank!

PS. make the base approx 1.5-2 times thicker than the walls of the tank as its going to have to support all the weight of the water, LR and all livestock etc in the tank!

Like a 150g tall :). If you Euro Brace (put a glass rim all over the top of the tank, prolly a 2-3" wide euro wold do it. Otherwise if you want to put cross supports, I'd suggest two of them with that much length

Generally the deeper the tank is the thicker the glass needs to be.
