As some of you may have noted i recently lost my fave eel, and ive been on the look out for a suitable oddball to replace it. Having a brief chat with my lfs, he directed me to the moray tank! Looking at them, they are really individual creatures and there are two gorgeous ones.
My problem is this: are they compaitble with other large predators (I.E. garfish, birchirs) synos and afircan cichlids
How big do they get? and what to feed them on

The tank itself is 4ft, extrmely rocky with many hiding places, 15ppm nitrate, 7.5pH and hard, so what do u think?

First and foremost, all moray species are at least brackish fish with many requiring full marine as they mature.

Many fish stores sell them as freshwater because they spawn in rivers then migrate to the sea.

For this reason, a moray would not be a suitable tank-mate for the fish you mentioned.

Sir minion is absolutely correct, no members of the Muraenid family (moray eels) live as adults in freshwater and will need the water they are kept in to have a SG of at least 1.010.

Look in the guide to oddballs pinned at the top of this forum for the basic info on moray eels and other eels common in the aquatics trade.
