Found a fish called a marbled goby at the l f s last week, don't know much more about it other than they said it was brackish water fish. Typical goby body with very attractive marbling pattern. Eats well, no problems yet, just looking for info. Maybe not a very popular fish, they said they had special ordered it for a customer and then customer changed their mind. Never have had a freshwater goby before, so any info will be appreciated!

Is this it http://www.aquariumfish.com.my/fishnotes/goby.html ? If so then it is a aggressive predator which can reach up to 20" in length. It has a prefference for brackish water so adding 2 to 4 tablespoons of salt per 5 gallons (20 litres) of water would be better for keeping it.

OMG! I hope not! A 20" goby !!!!!!!Didn't even KNOW there was such a thing!! I am familiar with the small saltwater gobies(yellow clowns, green clowns, firefish, etc), just happened to see this fish at l f s, cute little thing about 1.5", only $2.99,thought to myself "Self, you know you've got room for that". If this is what it is, I have just re-taught myself a valuable lesson all over again.Research BEFORE you buy! then :hyper: then  then :*)

Well, I stopped by the L F S today after work, had them check the billing invoice from when they got the fish, and it was indeed oxyeleotris marmoratus. Thanks for the info,CFC. You can tell from my last post, I was shocked because this is such a little fish right now....I feel kind of like the new guy just setting up his first ten gallon tank, and wondering where all my neons went and the only thing left in my tank is this cute little oscar :p .(and I've been keeping fish now for over 35 years) Anyway, regardless of how big he gets, it's a cool fish that i plan on keeping. Anyone had any experience with it? Wondering how long it will take to reach that 20" mark? This fish likes to perch on strands of floating plants,do they like cover as they get older or stay out in the open?

It may not reach 20 inches. It may stop at 15 inches. It may pass 20 inches. I would buy a new 100 Gallon and then upgrade if you need to and then if you do upgrade you could get a BGK or something for the 100 gallon.
