Hello there all. went with my cousin to get his Live rock for his tank today. when he put his first lump in, i heard shouts of "hey! sometihngs on this" therefore i walked over to see he had a mantis shrimp. luckily it was id'ed immediately and removed. i never knew how powerfull these thigns were, after having a poke about on the net, i had to test his "powers" so i waved a pecil in front of his face, and we were amazed at the power of it, this one was only about an inch long, a kind of dark grey greenish colour.

i will never forget the noise as it hit that pencil though :)

They are pulling out fully grown mantis shrimps that are as long as your forearm in Sinagpore! That will do more damage than split a finger :-(

ever heard of a false mantis shrimp? at the local fish store they have a bright right mantis shrimp. one of the employees says he was looking up stuff and he is unsure to if it is truely a mantis. it has the same look, same appendages excepts its red and has never killed any of the other crabs, fish that is in the tank with it. can it be true about a false mantis shrimp? if so any info on them

well I got info on the common mantis shrimp
they can grow over 45cm they eat large meaty foods like krill. they can snap bones easily and is sometimes called the thumb splitter and the water should be normal reef settings
