Noticed a few of these guys running around in my fuge. Smallest is probably about 4mm long and biggest is probably about 1cm. I have seen at least 1 molt that looks the same as well. Hard to photograph because I haven't got a decent macro lens but they look very much like mantis shrimp to me.

They have a shrimp like back, 6 legs, tail with "fans" in (what is the actual name for these?) and front looks shrimp like as well except it has no claws/fans (but what looks like the jabbing type claws of a mantis). I see about 6 of them in there all in 1 spot.

Not worried about it (I was thinking of getting a mantis for the fuge anyway :)) but just wanted to see if that is what it was.

Jesus, people sure are scared of mantis shrimps these days.

What you have there is an amphipod... harmless and beneficial.
