I had been throwing around the idea of my next nano being a species nano for mantis shrimps. After finding out that a 15 gallon tank made of 3/8" cell cast acrylic was going to be 250$+ I decided to put that idea on hold. Well after discussing it with the manager of the LFS that I like he suggested this: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/Prod...AA&N=2004+62761

Now, he also told me that he can order me a peacock mantis if I wanted, but he could not select the type (spearer or smasher). So that part is kind of a gamble. Do you all think that this would be an acceptable tank for a mantis, even if I happened to get a smasher? it is acrylic, however i have no idea how thick it is. Just wondering what the big folks thought.

I'm currently planning a mantis nano (you'll find my thread in this forum), and I've been recommended by people who have kept species for years (in science labs etc) that only the biggest species can smash tanks (eg, peacocks), and they only do it in extreme circumstances.

particular reading which I have found to be very useful was "roys list" google it and you'll find details on all the mantis species flavours and their aquarium suitability, tank size etc.

I was told on several other boards that the peacock was one of the larger species of mantis and would be most happy in a 20g

MANTIS SHRIMP R AWSOME, and ive read in alot of places that in the wild they like to hide in cave holes, so they can catch their prey easier, and if hungry cruise around on the sand bottom, i think if you had enough hiding places in the 12 gal itd be happier, and i suggest keep shopping, cuz my lfs gave me an estiment for a 20 gal acrilic tank for 150$ so you never know. I think 20 tall would be perfect cuz then you could build up live rock instead of outwards if you get what i mean, then theres better hiding places, good luck..
