I've only owned male bettas and I'm wondering if female bettas have different requirements. I have a 2 1/2 gal bowl which I'd like to contain a female. Should I set it up differently from the way I would a male's bowl? & will a female, alone in a bowl, get lonely?

Their needs are exactly the same as the males.
She won't get lonely as long as you give her plenty of attention.
:)

I started off only keeping male bettas...then one day my lfs got a shipment of girls in. I bought one and had her in a divided tank for quite awhile before I even knew females could be kept together. She's now living with a bunch of other female bettas. Her personality is the same as when she was living by herself. So all in all keeping one female betta by herself will be just fine. :D

& just to clarify, 2 fish to a 2 gallon bowl is not a good idea, right? Or is this dependent upon the individual fish? (In which case, could I watch them, and seperate only if they don't get along?)

I wouldn't risk trying two females in that small of a tank, 10 gallons is the minimum. I'm sure she will love to have the whole 2 1/2 gallons to herself though! :D
