Male or Female

A few weeks ago we bought a female betta, Or so we thought, It looks like a female but Im not convinced,

1) It doesnt get vertical stripes when its stressed

2) It swims about around the tank like our other betta (In another tank) ive noticed the females seem to hide alot more than the males

3) It puffs/Flairs its face up


Any ideas oh betta experts??

Horizontal stripes are for srtess. Your best bet is to check for an oviposter, which is a white dot thing between the venetrals.

if it young enough the oviposter is not always correct, I have had every male I had come out of a spawn look like a female (down to oviposter) untill the fins started legthening and she became a he. I have actually tryed to breed one of these boys to a another older boy untell over night it became a boy.
