I got this betta in the female tank at petco. She/He was really fat the day I bought him/her but that went away after two days. There is a small bubblenest, a lot of flaring and pretty nice colors for a female. I don't see an ovipositor either.

This is the day I got the fish, so you can see why I thought it was a female.

And this is the fish as of tonight - sorry about the glare, it's a bowl.

What do you guys think? :dunno:

I agree with Joker.Sometimes you get male plakats in the female tanks, that's just how it goes. Love his emerald green though, very pretty!

I guess you could wait and see if it makes a bubble nest...
Females make bubblenests, too. Some of my girls make better ones than the males.

For some reason, I think it's a girl. Maybe it's the body shape... :dunno:

Whatever it is, he/she is gorgeous betta.

Ok you guys.... read the first two lines  :p

I said there is a small bubblenest and I can't see an ovipositor :D

i dunno if mines a female or male aswell, because i bought her as a female and out her in with my other one and the immediatly started fighting and before i got home(my sister told me they were fighting but was too stupid to seperater them :sly: ) the other one was dead. so i dunno either  (he/shes in a 5 gal by his/herself now btw whats a Ovipistor

sorry for hi jacking :X

It looks like a female to me, I think because of the body shape... if it's young, though, I could very well be wrong. I have a female that acts like a male, so it's possible... In the third pic, I see what looks like a tiny white ovipositor, but if you don't see one I guess it's not; you can never tell from pictures :p

That definately looks like a male. The fins are flowing about unlike females.
It probably looked like a female the day you got it because it had clamped fins the LFS might have stressed it out. Well its definaltely happy with you it made a bubblenest.

Thanks for the opinions :) I'll keep checking for an egg spot but until then I say it's a boy. What should I name him?

Dwarf: An ovipostior is the white dot between the ventral fins.
