Does the Flash hurt the fishes Eyes?

Dunno, I don't think so, but it sure freaks the crap out of them but it's tank is too dim to get pics any other way.

Looks like a plakat. I bet if you gave a picture of his/her underside we'd be able to tell for sure!

I just tried but couldn't get a good shot right now, I'll try in the morning.

I'd say male PK. But that is one craptacular photo.

Uh.. what a nice thing of you to say.

Bettabetta, if you yourself are curious about your fishes sex, if there is a white dot on its underbelly than it is a female. Otherwise it is male.

Almost certainly a plakat male, I'd say.

Can't be helped with a fish with a 5 watt lamp above it.

Yeah, I'v been trying to tell, problem is it's bottom front half is all shimmery white, makes it hard.

Ok, everyone I've reveal what it was sold to me as later today.

Your story is similar to mine. I found my largest and most virile male, Hunding, aka "the snail-crusher", in a tank full of females. I would most certainly say plakat male. But I have been wrong on many occasions. The only way to know for sure is to check under his/her skirt. Hunding's bubble nests are largest, and though his fins are short, his body is huge! I think he's trying to compensate for being found in a girly tank. :lol:

I bought this little fish as a......................

::drumroll::

Female! But "she" was suspiciously less torn up than the other females and has quite a male look and atitude and general way about "her" This fish is Amphitrite on of my first betta and I still don't know for sure what it is. I'm going to get some females here soon so with something to compare "her" to maybe I'll be able to tell.

Btw, she was from a grocery store and was a tan and gray blah color until I saved her, in the nick of time to because they added a bunch of gorami soon afterward which killed all the other fish in the tank.

:hey: Wow, nice find! I can almost say it's DEFINITELY not a VT female, in any shape or form. Looks much like a male Plak to me, especially because of his pointy anal fin, and his ventrals are way too long. The best way to tell is if he has lots of nice bubblenests going, there's a 90%+ chance you've got a boy!

I almost thought he was one of Synirr's boys... heh... it's awesome the you got such a nice Plak boy from a grocery store. I've heard that happens a lot, the sellers will accidentally throw in a few short-finned males with females.
