The Taffy Apple
Fish Herder
Afternoon all.
5 days ago i completed my usual feed in my 120L tank and straight away couldnt see my powder blue male DG anywhere. After a quick look in my plants there he was, struggling to breath and very obviously on his way to the big tank in the sky
So i kept an eye on him for 24hrs, all water tests were as expected and nothing has been added to the tank since him and the female DG about 6 weeks prior.
What concerend me was the state of his usually flamboyant scales down both sides of his body. A lot of them had been bumped/hit/dislodged... looked like he had been attacked numerous times in a very aggresive manner. The female DG used to chase him a little...but nothing vicious, she'd swim afetr him for 1 second then get bored, hell.. she used to make way for him to eat!
Anyway, with disease in my mind i moved him across to my small 30L, but he didnt last long... he was helped along the way with some clove oil yesterday a.m.
So there we have it...his loss is obviously a loss for me, of which i am a little gutted in all honesty..but the two main questions i have are these...
1/ Is it physically possible for a female to attack a male to death?
2/ How do you think she will cope being on her own in the tank? Should i attempt another male? Or even another female?
Any help/opinions highly appreciated.
