So I am removing one of my fish due to aggression and I thought about replacing it with a Opaline since they do well alone and don't need schooling. However I already have a Blue in my tank and for the most part is docile with the other fish. I know they are relatives with Bettas and are known to attack each other or get along. Would the different genders keep them from fighting?

Blue and opaline gouramis are the same species, both colour morphs of three spot gouramis. Males of this species can be aggressive to females if the male wants to breed and the female doesn't. It is usually recommended to have 2 females with 1 male, if you have room for 2.

Two females? Maybe... My tank is getting kind of full.

If your Blue male is fine in the community maybe it's best to just leave him alone. Depending on the size of your tank & other inhabitants, of course. If you can't add 2 females it may be best to leave well enough alone.

Well right now I have in my 50 gallon
4 Fiddler Crabs
4 Pictus Catfish
Dragon Goby
4 Dalmatian Mollies
Blue Gourami
Marble Angelfish
Rainbow Shark
And a Albino Bristlenose Plecostomus

So I think it's full as is...
