Hi all,

I'm thinking of getting a 10 gal tank just for a male Betta but I would also like a small schoal of cardinal's, which wouldn't be appropriate for my existing tanks. Would they get on OK?

Hmm... I'm not sure how nippy cardinals are, but the betta might be annoyed by the bright colours and the activeness.

I had a male Betta with a small school of neons for about a month, in a 10g. The neons started picking his tail apart, and the betta was removed. :/

Thanks for the help guys, doesn't sound promising. I may go for plan B, which is to divide the 10 gal and have 2 male Betta's. I was also considering a small Pleco (Golden Nugget or similar) as a bottom feeder, presumably this would not be a problem with a male Betta?

a bottomfeeder shouldnt be a problem with a betta..bettas arnt really that aggresssive they just hate busy, colourful fish and cant be with nippy fish!

Thanks again.

I am glad you posted this question. I was just wondering if I should move one of my bettas into my neon tank. Now, I know not to. Thanks

I had a betta live with a pair of White Clouds and some feeder guppies in a 5 gallon and they got along great. :) But then again Henry is a laid back, cool kinda fellow who just gels with anyone and anything. He's nifty. ;)

i had neons in with my betta and they never nipped him i fact they kept there distancealong with the other fish he was the lord of the tank until he decided he liked the floor better than the tank but he recovered and died of old age he was lovely (blue and red) :rip: lord of the tank
he was just like this (not actually him just looks like him)
