Ive a male betta in a large community tank (70g) , loads of plants, neons, harliquins tetras, 5 rainbow fish, 1 plec, zebra danios, 4 yellow gouramis and some corries. Would it be ok if i got a partner for the male betta, and will they swim around together?
Or could i get him a couple of females to swim with?
Advise appreciated. ;)

No!!!! :angry: You can never put two male betta together as they will fight to the death. I would not advise putting a female in there as they also are quite likley to fight with the males and either severly injure or kill each other.

Easy there....people stop asking questions and just go on and do things when they see others getting their heads bitten off. :) Although I'm sure there are several topics just like this scattered about in here ;), search works great for finding quick answers most of the time. :nod:

A.I.M. it is not advisable to do so. Most female bettas will attack males unless they are ready to breed, and the males will most often chase the females around, not to mention it's hard enough to find girlies that get along with each other.

I'm sure your betta is content as he is...so long as he isn't tormenting your other fish, which they often do...and so long as your other fish aren't chasing and nipping your betta (neons are bad about that sometimes).

So all in all...I bet the general consensus will be a definate..."no". :thumbs:

::seconds the no::

I assure you that nothing will make your betta happier than having no others of his species around. :lol:

ya thats probly a bad idea you shuold never ever put 2 males in with eachother but im glad u asked befor u just put the male in or a female at that :thumbs:

cheart69 & fishys you must have misunderstood the word partner, i meant partner as in the opposite sex ( female in this case). But as for the rest of the advise, much appreciated !! ;)

Sorry if i sounded to aggressive. My brother did put two bettas in after receiving advise that he should not b/c he said that they "were not exactly firm in their advise." :S
