If they get along, would it be okay to keep them together or would they one day turn on eachother?

No you cant keep a male and female 2gether

1) They will either spawn
2) KILL each other
3) Even though it seems they get along......the female will be scared for her life and the male will be P'd Off because he wants to mate, this can cuz VERY short lifes
4) One day the male decides to go crazy and kill the female, or vice versa

You best bet is to start a sorority

There is another thread similar to this on page one, that I just replied on. But I agree with DaSauce, definitely not a good idea. Even if you got two timid fish that seemed to get along, eventually things could turn bad. Definitely not worth the chance.

... err.... no. I would think you'd know that by now, having almost 100 posts in this forum. Its not that they'll "one day" turn on each other, it's not in their nature to be kept together in a confined area. In the wild, male Bettas have large territories that females ONLY enter to spawn ~ then, they immediately leave. This is why females must be removed from spawning tanks right after they spawn!

Maaybe, you could keep a male and a female together in a 100 gallon with loads of plants. BUT, wouldn't it be much easier to have a nice 10-15gallon female community? Yes, yes it would be! heh, seriously, PLEASE check the search engine.

You could keep a pair of Betta imbellis together in a 10 gallon successfully though

Imbellis' are awesome!! I have decided that I am going to start two more 10 gallons this summer. The one I have right now will remain a community of tropical fish, the second one will become a sorority tank, and the last will become one just for imbellis'. My LPS sells Metallic Imbellis and they look awesome because if you have light in the room, they shimmer. Its also great to watch the tank when you have a bunch of em in there. I am not going to have a tank with a male and female. As you all said, it is a bad idea. And I knew it was, but it seemed like they were getting along, but its true...one day they could go crazy and kill one or the other. =) Thanks!

I kept a male and female together
they were however in a 4ft long tank and had caves at each end.
they occasionally met in the middle and there was a bit of chasing.
I wouldn't atempt it again in anything less than that sized tank.
