In some time, I will be getting 3 vampire crabs... I'm wondering if there's a way to diffrentiate between male and female from the shell?

Depends on what kind of vampire crabs you'll have. There are more vampire crab species. From experience I can state that the size of the claws aren't a good reference despite of the fact that many people state that it does make a difference. They surely haven't seen mine then...

I see, What variety do you have?
I checked at the LFS today and they were out of stock, so unfortunately i cannot say which variety

Most crabs can be sexed by holding them upside down and looking at their tails. The females have shorter wider tails, the males are longer and more pointed. the following link has a nice picture showing what I mean.

The problem with vampire crabs is when they are sold as youngsters, both sexes still look the same. If one wants to be sure, buy adults.

I see, I was wondering how to tell by the top shell.
However I will just ask the LFS person to hold up the clear box when netting for me to see them.

For the crabs, If I don't get the ones I want, is it okay to add more? I will be keeping them in a 15 gallon paludarium.
I will also be getting 3 to start off with

Start off slow. For each crab must be able to find their own spot as well where they can hide and rest.

okay, that makes sense. I will inspect each crab when buying
What's a good sex ratio of crabs?

Overhere, they like to have their own spot as well.
The sex ratio doesn't really matter. Female vampire crabs can be as dominant as male vampire crabs.

thanks for the information. I'll make sure to have many different spots suitable for them.
do you know if they prefer hiding under wood, rocks, or Plants?
Or does that depend on each little crab?
