Hi everyone in the snail section!

I am getting a new tank which I am going to be using a sand substrate for. I have been reading about Malaysian Trumpet Snails and I know that these will benefit my tank by burrowing in the substrate etc...

But I have just a few questions if you could help:

1) Are Malaysian Trumpet Snail the best type of snail to have in a tank with a sand substrate?

2) I don't want them to overtake my tank so do they bread often and will they produce lots of mini snails?

3) Where is the best place to get Malaysian Trumpet Snail from if it is the best snail?

And if you can add any more info for me it would be much appreciated :)

Thanks!

Hi i have and breed these little fellas and i think they are great. They are great to have in tanks with sand they airate it for the plants and eat you algea. They breed every 3 months really with eggs but these are easily stopped just take them out and sell them or bin them or put them in a wet area in th garden. They are not easily found in pet stores but i sell them and many people in private farms do.I do sell to peoplelike you as long as you ay by paypal the answer to getting these snails is yes and they do not eat plants.I can do 10 for about £5-7.
Thanks

Eggs????? I read on the pinned thread in this section that Malaysian Trumpet Snails are livebearers, is this not correct then?

I've now looked on ebay and you can buy 10 for £1.50 + P&P so I'll get them from there!

Can anyone else answer any of my questions?

Thanks

yes they are livebearers sorry, they are so little and easy to catch

Malaysian trumpet snails are by far the best snails for your tank. They will bury themselfs in the sand and are pretty much not seen throughout the day. At night time, when the lights are off, your tank will be crowded with them because being livebearers, they breed. However, they're easy to controll by simply not feeding for a couple of days and they should get less. They'll also leave your plants alone, which is a definate pro.

Best place to get some? Post in the buy sell and swap section, many people here have them and are often willing to ship you some :)

Cheers for this! :)
Also, What in your opinion is best the snails or shrimps? I'm guessing the snails will be better for the sand but the shrimp better to look at?

I have just bought a 2nd hand Juwel Rekord 96L, and it currently has around 10 of these snails in.

I am not really a snail lover, but they look ok, should i keep them? I am keeping this tank as a guppy tank only..... With these snails of course, if i keep them ;)

C x :*
