Hi guys,

I had been chatting to a few of the others a week back now, and they wanted to see some pictures I took whilst in and around Lake Malawi. I put a few up, they can be seen here there is one particular underwater picture which I feel, although poor, is probably just about good enough for someone who knows their mbuna to recognise. It is the blue job with the bars and stripes with the obvious egg spots.

With bars and stripes I was leaning towards a Hap. a Protomelas sp. but I can't find one that really looks right.

It's tough to tell, especiall with females, as so many different female haps look so similar. It could be protomelas, it can also very well be placidochromis.

What a great trip that must of been!

WOW LL, those are fabulous pics! I couldn't find the pic you were referring to though :/

any chance I could get some of those in full size to use as desktop images? If yes, I'll tell you which ones.

Also, your captions are really interesting.... Chambo, eh?
I feel like Chambo Tonight! :p

I've put a red border around the picture I think it may be possible to identify.

Exiled:

If you tell me what you want, how big and in what format, I'll scan them again - as they are, they are 6"/150mm x 4"/100mm colour prints scanned at 75 dots per inch and .jpg encoded. I can hardware scan up to 600 dots per inch. Probably best PM'd.

Just a guess, but Protomelas spilonotus? Where was the pic taken?
spilo-p-blu.jpg

but the shape of the head almost reminds me of Taeniolethrinops. I'll send the pic to a friend of mine that dives Malawi frequently....

I'll PM you with some requests :)
Thanks LL

One of the little islands off Cape Maclear, May, 1992.
