I have an established 20 gal. I just moved its inhabitants to a new condo. My question is how long can it be left with no fish in it before the little beniful backteria starve? Im going to use it to quarentine fish before moving to the condo. The problem is I have to find some fish first. Will I have to cycle it again if its too long? and how long is too long?

I think the bacteria slowly starts to die as soon as you remove the fish/ inverts... -_- I just add a couple drops of ammonia a day to keep the tank cycled.

Hi Fiddlesticks :)

It almost seems like a shame to keep a cycled 20 gallon tank going just to use as a hospital tank.

Why not buy a couple of nice fish to live there until then. With a bit of luck you will never need it for it's intended purpose and can enjoy some new kind of fish as well. :D
