The first time I read your post, I thought you said 'foods' Then I saw it again and noticed you said 'hoods' Silly me (Hey, it's 1:30 in the morning and I'm tired, give me a break )
I was looking for DIY hood ideas the other night and just went to Google and typed in 'DIY hood' (or something like that). Found all kinds of good stuff
I just made it from scratch. Got some 4mm ply, mesured the tank, cut the right sized peices of wood, sanded them glued them put in hinges and varnished it.
I didnt put a light on it but thats cos i was makign it for a friend and im too mean to spend £15 ona light unit that i'll never see.
sadly it has black mould in it now, I'm gonna strip it down and varnish it again and possibly also make a condensation tray when I have time. moral of the story: LOTS of varnish!!
yhbae yeah water proof water will do, varnish is only to keep the grain of the wood visible
I made my canopy using a large pine board, sides and mouldings. Then I stained and varnished. I also installed hinges so that I can fold the front half over the back. If you want it to look nice, make it so the canopy lips just over the rim of the top brace to hide it
