Hi everyone,

As a keen fish keeper for over 30 years and a dedicated customer of Maidenhead aquatics Stratford for many a year now ,I was over joyed to here there was a store to be opened 8 miles away from my home as travelling to Stratford which was a return jorney of 70 miles was getting to be more of a weekend away than just popping to get supplies lol, Although Simon and his staff are amazing they treat you with respect and kindness you expect from a established company. So because of the distance to Stratford I decided to use Maidenhead Aquatics shirley in the Notcutts center the first few months went ok as you expect from just buying food supplies and the store being new the staff where running around like flies,

So after deciding a change of fish after keeping malawis for many years, I thought maidenheads the place to go for my new fishy friends,
I had already purchased 2 pearl arowanas from my cousin so thought a nice few cichlids would make the tank look brighter . After careful investigation on the web using my phone while in the store I came across some Zonatum cichlids which they was selling . I asked the member of staff if these were ok to introduce into my tank and he said yes as the arowanas are big and the cichlids wont bother them they were 2 inch in size , So well happy i decided to purchase 4 at a cost of 36.00

After one week had passed I went back to purchased some more fish and had another sales assistant serve me , we discussed introducing some silver dollas into the group and I came away with 8 costing 40 pounds, well pleased with my fish I couldnt wait to get home and introduce them.
All was well for 4 weeks fish getting along great feeding and no aggression at all. Until one day after returning home from work I was horrified to see the zonztums had killed both the pearl arowanas which were 9 inch in length and had also killed 3 of the dollas as well. Straight away my main concern was to remove the zonatums from the tank so the other remaining fish had a chance of survival which Is what i did and removed them to a spare doctor tank so I could return them to Maidenhead aquatics shirley ..

During Thursday which was my day off I bagged the fish and went on my way to maidenhead, I put the fish on the counter and explaned to the sales assistant what had happened and he was really sorry and said thats alot of money to have lost to these fish and ashame the fish had suffered as the arowanas cost me 120 pounds and the 3 dollas 15 pounds . He took the fish off me and put them in one of there tanks I asked if it was possible to exchange the fish for some more dollas which would be about 6 as the price had changed. He said he would see his manager who runs the store

Ten minutes had passed and the sales assistant returned to say that the manager said we would not exchange the fish but if you didnt want them we would take them off you for free, not liking what I was hearing I asked to speak to the manager and was pointed by the assistant to were he was. upon approaching him I explaned what had happened and I had lost a considerable amount of fish and money to those fish which I was told would be compatiable in the tank, He replied I was told on purchase that those fish were tank killers and I took them at my own risk , Hang on mate who told you this I said and he replied the assistant who was serving some other people who wasnt even involved in the conversation,, This made me feel sick to be called a liar in front of all the customers and to make it worse the assistant who served me to the fish wasnt even working that day , I told the manager that his information was incorrect and he needed to get the right assistant who served me so we could resolve this matter ,

Not even looking at me in the face the manager said no its all sorted im not willing to do anything about it so thats it , I told him I have never In my life been spoken to or humiliated as I have today by him , I told the assistant to bag the fish up and i would not return to this store again you have lost my custom and the custom of my family .

The manager never replied and just carried on dusting a tank lid , It is unfortunate that these people let the maidenhead aquatic reputation down they have no concern for customer services just want your money and thats it , As I am a respected member of the fish society and have been breeding fish for many years and also selling to empress imports I thought It was my duty to post this situation on here for you to decide for yourselves if going to this store will be for you..

I am now going to continue my 70 mile return journey to stratford maidenhead aquatics where the service and customer care is first class and they are keen to making you and your fish happy

kind regards Adam Davies

sorry, but using your first post to complain about MA (or any other LFS), isn't the done thing. This thread will be locked. Anyone reading this may take haste in researching your fish before buying them, and ensuring they suit the tank and tank mates.
