Recently I have had very low magnesium levels, I did 25% water changes irregularly every two weeks. I think because of this my calcium levels are also low at 380
my mag is now at 1230 after gradually adding a whole bottle of magnesium booster. I'd be soon runnin out of money if I have to get a new bottle at £11 a pop!

I Am now on a plan of doing 10-15% water changes a day. With my h20cean salt with apparently added mag and calcium to aid the natural depletion in the aquarium

do u reckon this is due to the heavy increase in a bit of bubble, hair and I think cyano algae?

I have decreased feeding rate and checked the levels yesterday:

Phosphate was 0
nitrite was 0
nitrate was 0

I added another sachets of carbon and phosphate nitrite and nitrate remover in the display with my k3 directed at them.

I think my cup coral and acropora are degrading because of these conditions, please help!!!!!

Tested using salifert and red sea

Magnesium is generaly used up by corals do you have many LPS/SPS ?, I would not worry about Calcium until your Mag is about 1350, Once this is upto 1350 then test your CA and boost that as needed once those 2 are in the correct range check your KH.

If you are having issues with levels I would recomed looking at the FM Balling salts it will be cheaper in the long run I paid £8 for a kilo of magnesium balling salts which I guess have a higher concentrate than a bottle as long as you add it slowly over a week it will soon get your stats back on track.

Okay do u think that if I continue water changes it will help? I am preceding to do this method as I alreeady have lots of bottles and chemistry sets cluttering up the place. I'll continue to do these changes over the next few. Days and every couple of days will show u the increments

doing water changes will help, id have thought it wouldbe cheaper to buffer it though....do it slowly aswel, dont shock your corals

Ben I think u may be right :p

I ordered some balling salts and upon looking up how to add them to the water got more confused.

Do I add it to my reef salt? I got magnesium chloride.

I'm worried about this NaCl business now....

If you got the FM Salt here is the mixing guide

Nope these are used to supplent Mag, Cal and KH all the info is in the links it would be cheaper but if you dont understand the info keep using the other buffers.

mate i bought the mag choride just been adding it to salt mixes and top ups, slowly with a low conc, will check levels this weekend!

Its a cheaper option but a very high qual product I use the FM salts just picked up my balling kit so will be updating my post with my findings
