Hi There,

My friend brought me this grow your own fish kit for xmas on the box it looked like kille fish and the concept was a plastic tub a bag of peat brineshrimps and still spring water.

I have now tried this twice and it wouldnt work! what was i doing wrong they said they should hatch within 24hours!

Rip off! and a hugh disappointment!

hey i got one of those for my B/Day the other day, i haven tried it yet, i will let you know what happens :)

if they are killifish eggs they should hatch within a few hours of being wet. However, they can take a week or more to hatch. It also depends on the length of time the eggs have been dormant and on what species they are.
Look up info on Nothobranchius killifish

do they need the light to hatch?

The instructions did not mention this as they are very limited.

Also the other thing is that it just says spring water do you not need water conditioner also?

I have a feeling the eggs are defected as we saw nothing and the first time my boyfriend did have his lamp on it!

They are bad as they cost £9.99 each i have now tried twice ok i have a fish tank myself so i know a little about keeping fish i have never hatched killies before and am still learning the fish keeping world every day but for the general public! they have no hope with the instructions provided! :shout:

I used to sell the kits when i had a shop and the rep told me that they need a light on from begining until after they've hatched, more for the warmth i think, they mustn't be in direct sunlight. Spring water/bottled is fine. When they first hatch they are microscopic and its possible you won't see them without a magnifying glass. You also usualy get some other things hatch with these kits like water shrimp and other things. My hatching was succesful its was the Triops kit. But they only live for about 3 months. They are fun to watch so persevere. lots of luck with it.
