I purchased a rock with a fine grass algae on it. I was told it was macro algae and would assist in the development of copepods. The algae is green and very fine like hair. It grows in clumps on the rock. Anyways, my tank water now stinks. Is this normal or is this an indication of something wrong? I tested the water and everything checks out normal (zero nitrate, nitrite, ammonia). The algae rock was placed in my 24g nano cube.

I hope you didn't get duped into adding hair algae into your tank. Anyway, nano tanks shouldn't stink. SH

was it a mistake? I thought macro algae was good for the tank. It's not hair algae. The algae I have is almost like grass> it is very thick like hair. The tank smells now.

24g nano
36 lbs of live rock

i just tested the water

0 nitrate
0 nitrite
0 ammonia
8 ph

i change the water every week

the macro algae looks great but i will remove it if it is negatively impacting my tank

Does it look like this...

There is no 'good' fine hair algaes to put in a nano unless it looks like what @ombomb posted above, top photo. SH
