my macroalgae in the sump has a red hairy substance on it. is this red slime algae?? i try to blow it off with a powerhead and it does not come off. I have pruned my algae as of a half an hour ago and got almost all of it out. this is not an issue in the main tank nor is there any in the main tank. also this red hairy looking substance is almost 90% on the macro algae and not the couple of pieces of live rock I have in there. any ideas or suggestions... or is this a norm and just let everything grow.

also do you even want to prune your macro algae?

i use to have that problem in my sump so i just added a power head and have never had that problem again so try this option it might help you aswell
p.s not all cyano can be blasted off this i based on my experience :)

more than likely red slime, I have it in my new refugium at the moment.

I'm fairly sure it is due to insufficient current, and will be adding a powerhead or 2 to try and help.

i cant take a pic due to me cleaning everything out last night. I did add a powerhead last night as well... so we will see how everything goes. thanks for the replies
