Ive just caught some macrobrachium australienis, and would like to put them in with my dwarf gourami, red tail shark, guppys, yabby and some paratya. I understand they are quite carnivorous little devils, and as suchI was wondering if anyone had any experience with them, and if so which inhabitants will most likely be devoured, and how big will they get??

Cheers

Macrobrachium spp. will catch and eat whatever they can; they cannot be combined with fish safely. In terms of combining with crayfish, that's a dodgy idea, with a good chance that the bigger ones will eat the smaller ones during the delicate moulting phase. Crayfish are more herbivorous than Macrobrachium to be sure, but I wouldn't trust a crayfish not to eat a small, moulting crayfish.

Cheers, Neale

Machro's frequently eat their own kind aswell, I would cook them up on the bbq with a little chilli, lime and coriander marinade personally. Anything that sleeps on the bottom will be attacked first and the main targets whilst free swimming would be the guppies.
