My Emmy has a serious swim bladder problem, so I'm getting her exchanged with a black and gold Lyre tail betta, free of charge.

Is this a good deal? I know melanos are rare, but is the gold mix (it goes from black to gold) and this tail type any good?

I had to make a choice on my feet, and the guy said the black and gold was his best betta, so hes just going to switch them for me since emmy is sick and needs more help than I can provide. (I think its chronic, and Mark admitted that was possible, so hes better capable of getting her through this if its possible.)

Thoughts? I feel terrible about Emmy, but, its for the best. She can't hide from the males, and would only suffer in the .5 since she can't swim around very much.

Thanks,

Becca

Swim bladder is one of the easiest things to cure. Just give her lots of frozen foods and cut her off the dry. Do you think she'll really be treated at the lfs? It could just be a defect that she was born with..

Anyhoo, sounds like a good trade but there's no way I could have the heart to bring a sick fish back.I have a soft spot for the underdog :p Best of luck!

Well, Mark will probably be taking her home to his personal tanks to help her out. He owns and cares for betta outside of work, and is bringing in his own personal stock to replace Emmy.

And it isn't standard swim bladder.. its a variant that isn't exactly cureable from the looks of it (either she swallowed an air bubble and it is in her stomache, I did the mehod to ersolve that with no luck) or the trapped bubble is in there making things horrid for her.)

If I had 3 weeks to make certain she had the quiet and peace she deserved, possibly, but she is being harrassed by the boys and she can't hide anywhere, because she cannot reach her plant at the bottom of her tank.

And shes *tried*, she has to bend into a U to eat anything because she cannot come up under it. Its breaking my heart watching her, and recovering her may not be possible.

So, I'm going to give her to Mark in exchange for the Lyre tail and let him take her back to his house to try to recover her.

;/ I've seen this once in a fish before, and it had to be put down because it was suffering. :(
