Lucky and Louis' tanks are next to each other.
In case anyone doesn't know, Louis is blind. He sometimes just plops himself down on the bottom of the tank to rest because there's nothing in the tank except him and his gravel.
Well - every time Louis lays down, Lucky swims back and forth along the glass facing Louis' tank. It's like he's trying to get over there and make him get up because he thinks something's wrong with Louis. He's such a good brother.

i can hear him now... "HEY! dude! get up! she's watching us again...maybe she'll give us a treat if we look cute enough! did'ja hear me? dude? you okay? treats!"

That's too funny, he's like "HEY! she's gonna dump you down the drain if you sit still for too long!! HEY HEY! wake up! haven't you seen finding nemo for cryin' out loud!?"

That's EXACTLY what I picture him saying too, now that you mention it.

I'm a teeny bit worried about Louis. After the whole PUR scare, he's been hanging around the bottom of the tank moreso than usual. Maybe I'm just paying a LOT more attention to everyone now to make sure no one else has ill effects from that whole thing, I'm not sure. But, I got him a nice soft plant to lay on tonight anyway, so when he decides to lay down he won't have to lay on the hard rocks.

Other than that, he's doing GREAT. We have figured each other out, as far as eating time goes - he knows exactly where to swim to and he waits for pellets or worms, or peas, whatever he's getting that day. He's such an amazing little guy - he hasn't made a bubblenest except for tiny ones all over the tank the first week he was in the tank - and he's never flared. I guess since he can't see, he has no reason to do either of those two.

I'd just once love to see him flare.

Awww...he sounds like he's doing wonderfullly.

I wouldn't worry too much about the PUR scare anymore. I would think that, if anything were going to happen to the little guy, it would have happened by now. It's been enough time. You're probably just noticing his usual tendencies that you may not have noticed before is all.

May I make a suggestion, bettamomma?
If you don't like louis being on hard rocks, have a substrate change to sand. I find it's totally beneficial for my fish, and he'd probably appreciate it if he tends to spend a good portion of his time on the ground. :D

I agree. I either have sand or no substrate at all in my tanks. Oh except for my 1g bowl, my daughter brought home some pretty smooth glass shells for "her" fish and we agreed to put them in there. I originally had gravel in my 5G, I scrapped it when I noticed Bob was dragging his fins and getting all ripped up.

I got a 25kg bag of play sand for less than $5. It takes a while to wash, but is oh so worth it. You could even go "bottomless" and just have a bare substrate. Or better yet, carpet the bottom with some java moss. He would probably love that. I better stop, I am giving myself too many new ideas. I just happen to have 2 large javamoss balls that are screaming to be planted among some substrate.

Great idea.
I've been tossing around the idea of sand - i've even thought about going with a bare bottomed tank. But... the sight of a barebottom tank makes my heart ache. The only fish I ever had in a barebottom was my little Amos - my first fish, and my first fish death. He suffered agonizingly for a couple of days before he died. And he laid on the bottom of a barebottom tank.

The sand is something I've always wanted to try, though.
I'll look into it ;)

BettaMomma, I like how sand looks, but if I were you, I'd get marbles or large smmoth river rocks from walmart, since that'd be MUCH easier than switching to sand.

Oh, and BettaMomma when did you get Amos? Just wondering how long you've been keeping bettas 'cause I'm curious. Did you find a new betta in need to go in Jack's old tank (sorry again about him)?

I got amos last year in about October. It was either October or November, so not all that long :)

I didn't find a new betta to go into Jack's old tank - I found 2! :)
Bettabelieve it and Saucy from the forum found some at a lfs that was moving locations and seemed like they had been disregarded as "good things to take along to the other store" so they went over and got all 5 of them. I'm getting 2 of them. (They live a couple hours from here but are coming to town for a grad party and I'm meeting them to pick up the boys) I'll be back to post pictures later. :D
