Hi all,

I live in the Thames Valley (UK) and have relatively hard water (13gH) in my tank.
I've been looking into (inexpensive) ways of lowering this for the benefit of my Rams and Apistos (though they were all bought from shops who kept them in unsoftened water and they seem quite happy so far).

I think I could use a mixture of bottled and tap water when I do my water changes, and I've also read about RO filters, but these options seem pretty expensive when you take into account how much bottled water I'd need to buy and the wastage of RO filters.

I've come across a product called 'Sera Super Peat' - which you add to the filter - and it sounds like it could be a decent fix. I don't mind if the water becomes a little darker because of this. I think the cichlids would actually enjoy it! But if the water becomes too dark I wouldn't be happy as I like being able to see my fish from across the room!

Does anyone have any experience of using Sera Super Peat at all?

To be honest, any other advice on lowering my water hardness would also be greatly received.

Thanks,

Scott
