Does anyone know a way to lower the ph of tank water without using something that wouldnt hurt my fish. Like someting that you'd have at home rather then a chem to buy at the store since im really broke.

is your ph high? or do you just want to lower it for a certain fish or somthing? maybe a water change?

The water strait out of our tap is 9.4 and I need a in-expensive means of lowering to about 8.3 or 8.4

if you premix your salt the salt mixture (usally) gets the ph to 7.9-8.4 (using red sea mix...) :D

Using salt mix should bring it down and also with the sand/liverockin the tank this should help buffer and keep the tank stable.

If the PH is still too high then CO2 will help lower. Difficult to regualte though as an algea you have in the tank will also produce CO2 at night so the PH naturally falls during this time as well.

Thanks guys, I went ahead and added the salt mix to the new tank and it leveled out to about 8.2, for some reason I didnt think that the saltmix would effect the ph but i was wrong. Thanks again!
