Low Voltage Down Lights

Just wondering if anyone here has tried Low Voltage down lights instead of Florescent Tubes. I know the small Fluval Edge uses them, would they be any good for growing plants.

Probably a stupid idea but always good to see if someone has done it.

would add a fair bit of heat to the tank (and chew more electricity). on the plus side they may be cheap.

also has the wrong spectrum for growing plants, if you're into that.
