As per usual your tanks looks stunning (and i hate you for it lol)...On a side not ive just started using Seachem Flourish and Flourish Excel...so fingers crossed itll make a difference in my planted tank :)

anyone able to identify whats covering the gravel?
I'm desperate for a carpet in my tank

It's dwarf hairgrass.
A so called "high light" plant by many of various forums.
Seems to do quite well here.

how have you managed to get it to grow so well,
I have 1.1 wpg atm And its just going brown,
Im desperate to carpet my tank.
and if I can avoid going highlight I will...
I was going to double my output to 2.2 or so.

Hairgrass is rather easy, I've produced nice thick clean lawns for over a decade now.
CO2 is the main issue. I've done well with plain sand and RFUG's, Kitty litter and sand, ADA AS, Flourite etc.
It's not picky about the sediment.

You may need more light. 1.5-2w/gal is a good range for most folks.
CO2 is a huge issues and many think using low light means no CO2 is required which is true, but you gain a great deal in adding with low light tanks without nearly the hassles you deal with in hgher light tanks.

2.2 w/gal using PC's or T5's is fine.
You are a bit on the lower side, but even there, many folks have grown plants fairly well using PC/T5's with CO2.

SO im considering buying Arcadi 2x T8 both 25w my tanks 22.2 Gals so that should be sufficient hopefully

That's the secret actually, adding a donut every week or so helps the plants stay nice and fat.

I do not use spell check nor worry too much about the errors, I'm not being graded here nor getting paid and I type too fast:)

Is that your tank, Tom?

If so, it looks as if you have mastered the arty farty side of the hobby as well as being a science geek.

The moss looks great. Surely the use of Java moss will be on the wane with the great varieties that are around.

What size tank is it?

dave.
