I must admit that I don't know much about cories. They are just a cute fish that most people put in the tank to help keep the bottom clean. I've got 2 peppered cories and 1 albine cory, they mostly hung out together not causing any trouble to anyone. Anyway I thought that I would get another albino as a friend for mine. Went to the lfs and bought a new little 'mate' and put him/her in the tank. Well! a few minutes later I checked to see if it was ok and my albino was all over it!! Chasing it everywhere and wouldn't leave it alone. After quite a while they finally settled down together. Days later my cory still chases the new one around. Is this normal? Can cories be aggresive or is he just glad to see another of his own kind? It doesn't seem to be aggresive behaviour, but not knowing what sex they are I don't want my new cory to be stressed out. Its quite cute to watch because they come at each other from different ends of the tank, butt heads then lay down together for a while before starting the chase again. Weird!

It's a bit difficult to say, but Cories usually are not aggressive in a negative sense. They could be playing, or the new one could be a gravid female. The female controls the spawning with Cories, I have been told, with her hormones. So she will not be stressed by amorous attentions. But when new Cories are introduced there is often a Welcome Long Lost Friend celebration that goes on for days.

Thanks jollysue, 'A Welcome Long Lost Friend' celebration, Hee! Hee! what a lovely saying about a new cory indroduced! Guess you're right cos they still like to chase each other but like their 'alone' time too, and they are not quite as manic as when I first put the new one in. :good:

I think you will become a Cory lover. Welcome to the Society, Long Lost Friend.
