I just got my "Current USA Satellite Dual 36" 2x96 Watt Power Compact Strip Light W/Lunar Light" and the fan on it is way to loud. anyone know if there is a way to fix this? or what will happen if I just dont run it? I dont think it is really a defective fan, I think its just a small fan spining for all its worth and making a racket.

Fans are loud. Not running it risks over heating :X
You can put a resistor in the power line to reduce the speed it spins at, but still have a fan doing something. It should only be a wind blowing noise though. If it sounds rattley etc... it sounds a like it may be dodgy.

Got it at http://www.bigalsonline.com/ for $154.99. but it looks like they added the mounting feet after the fact and one of the screws put some scrapes on the top of the fixture :\ . Other then the loud fan it seems good. It does take 4 plug in places, had to run extra power strip just for the light.

Does the fan need a bit of lube? I had a old fan that had built a bit of dust and dried the barrings. Had to take it apart and remove the gunky, dusty, crusty, greasey mess. Or is it the whirr noise that's from it being off center? Could you discribe the noise better than just fan noise?

The sound is not a mechanical problem. its just a small fan spining too fast and making the "air" sound loudly.
