Hello,

I was just wondering about not drilling holes in my tank but some how getting a over flow i have been hearing about, wheres the best place to buy one or make one? are they any good? and cheap? and the return pump what would i need?

I hope to move to a 72inch*24inch*18inch tank and was wondering what size sump will i need? not as in size of the tank but volume needed.

I have a Cortez angel fish in my tank and it is eatting all my polyps and making my tank look empty, the shop sold me some sea veggies (purple seaweed) (ingredients 100% dried seaweed) and said that should stop him eatting them but even if he did stop will the polyps grow back?

I think this is a polyp but not 100% sure as it seems to be growning at the back of the tank out of the sand. its in a place that never sees light at all! i was just looking round the back and saw this. (The white bit on the right is fake live rock as a background).

The other day i got myself a red coral and was wondering if anyone can tell me the name of it please, it only has like little feather duster type things out of it but in the light it looks wow.

Many Thanks Eigdoog :good:

red coral looks like a red leather.

I would catch the crab using a trap.... might not be the angel eating all your corals....

I have seen the angel eatting them. the crab might be out at night but mostly it is the angel im watching him do it now lol.

If i did catch the crab what do i do with it? i dont have a sump to put him in. i will do when i move tanks though.

well if you put some krill or mysis in the bottom of a glass and place it near the rock stack (so the top edge is accessible), then the crab should be caught cause it will go for the food, slide in and not be able to get out.

Depending on what species it is, I would prob just kill it as most medium to large sized crabs are going to carnivorous, ie eating corals/fish/inverts. But as said, depends on what species it is... how big is it approx?

Ox :good:

i really did not think he would be that bad as he has been in there for a good 2-3months now maybe even more! I just wish i knew what he is! is it worth putting him in a sump? as my lfs told me to bring it in and they will put it there (cant give me anything thought...)

i would say that red coral is a chilli coral .

and take the crab to lfs sump or something, hes probably a menace if left !

I have looked the "chilli coral" up and it does look just like it thanks! and i think i get the crab when i got something to get it with (the food)

Anyone still know about my angel and the sump?

i think you have to deciede wether you like the angel enough to do without corals, or bite the bullet give the angel to the lfs and get some corals.

Do angels just eat polyps and thats it? as i can live with that but i have other things in there like toadstool, mushrooms, leather and anemone. will he think "yum" to all of them too? maybe a net over the polyps? or can that be bad?

Thanks everyone so far :good:

Can someone help me out with my sump as well i really need to start making this as i want to start moving over asap

Thanks ever so much!

Well, what elements of a sump do you want?

Thats stopped me for a start. how do you mean? i thought you put live rock and things like that in a sump, if i did have a sump do i still have a external filter working? or can that be to much filtering? i can really get lost in this lol.

Many Thanks Eigdoog

Well there's lots of reasons for sumps. Some of the more common are a place to put unsightly equipment, an increase in system water volume, and a good place to put a refugium. Some not-so-common reasons would be creating benthic zones or fitting remote deep sand beds. I personally use my sump to house my skimmer/heaters/phosban reactor and a refugium, but that's just me :)

i was thinking of putting my skimmer/ heater and bits like that in there so i cant see them and some where to try frags, plus some live rock i thought would be best as i thought that was what a sump was for :good: . i dont think i need to make it more water volume as its about 100 gallons as the tank stands, thats why i thought i needed a sump at a size to suit the tank?

Sorry for being so thick!

Its ok, we'll get there, slowly but surely :). How big of a sump tank can you fit wherever you want to put it? In general it's a good idea to just use a pre-made glass tank and construct the sump by siliconing in glass walls.
