Lots Of Brown Slimy Algae!

yes i have lots of brown algae everwere all over my live rock and sand is this normal i try and wipe it off but it comes straight back it seems to stop spreading or even die off overnight when the lights are off.
firstly what is it? Secondly what has caused it could it be due to heigh nitrate levels, using tap water instead of RO or is it because it is a new tank? And finaly how do i get rid of it or cant i?

its probably diatoms, very common in new tanks. The tap water's nitrates and silicates are probably feeding it. Give it time, take away its nutrients, scrape it off and use mechanical filtration that you clean every day should get rid of most of it.
