It's a sad day around here. I lost my albino male, I don't know why. This morning they where find. I did a 50% water change yesterday and knew they would lay eggs today or tomorrow. I was right and this morning one of the females had started laying eggs. Everyone seemed fine. Today at lunch I found one of the males dead. Sad to say it was an albino, it was the only albino male I have. All my cories are the same age only a year or so old. Betweeen the 4 females i was able to harvest over 200 eggs. But it is the death of the male that has me puzzled. Everyone seems fine, ph is good.... Any ideas?? :dunno: This is the first one I have lost. you can click on my mini profile to see his photo. I have watched them breed many times...many something happened. Glee

Thank you, when I got home, I removed all my males. None of them look very good. they all seem listless. Lately they have been laying alot of eggs. so I think it is time to keep them apart so the males can build back up. I have noticed that it seem to be very hard on the males. They seem to rest more than the females during this time. This type of cory seems to be very different then the others I have had in the past. Just not sure what else to do, maybe I should not do anything at all......Glee

Sorry for your loss. I think you are doing the right thing in keeping the males separated for a while, let them build up their strength

Hi Glee

I'm sorry to hear that you lost your male cory. :-(

You can stop them spawning by raising the temperature. :)

I have run into one spawning related problem and that is bacterial infection brought about, I think, by the changing temperatures. Even though your water is clean and fresh, temperature changes are not a good thing for any fish's immune system and the bacteria, which is always present, can take hold.

I haven't had this problem with fish that I only breed occasionally, but with my bronze corys who usually spawn at every opportunity. You might want to try a dose of MelaFix as a preventative/cure.

I hope the eggs you collected will give you a replacement for your male.

Please let me know what happens. :)

Thanks inchworm. I double checked my temp to make sure everything was in line. When I set up my tank house I made sure the fresh water would be the same temp, ph and hardness. I check it every week. It saves me so much time and money doing it that way. Plus I have really good well water. I also don't run filters in most tanks, I use an overflow system which allows freshwater to enter all the time, and the over flows goes to my garden. Today the males seem better. I spent a great deal of time on the phone today trying to find another albino male, but no one seems to have one. These cats are either really rare or really new. They where a gift to me. Something new to try. He doesn't have any either. This little "gift" has now become my passion. I have some albino babies 6 weeks old, but not knowning much about them, I am not sure if they breed true. It will interesting to see if they develop the high fin and the angel wings. It took a year to get to this point, so I feel very lucky to have these. Thank you for you help Glee
