Ok, last night I lost 4 neons and one zebra danio. I'm treating the tank with melafix. I'm starting to wonder if maybe i have some conflict with my fish. I know that the zebra danios, cardinals, neons, white clouds and one male betta get along, the only other fish i have are 5 black kuhli loaches that are lmost 4" long, could they be attacking my fish? ????
The zebra was half ate, but that could have been after he died. Otherwise I have some disease or parasite.
I don't know if it will help, but I took pictures of the dead fish. Any comments would be very welcome.

Can you post test results in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph, I doubt if it's the loaches they are meant to be peaceful fish.

Most likely they were eaten AFTER they died and your problem is water quality or internal parasites (which would explain why there are no outward symptoms).

as wilder said please test ya water and post the results.

I find it very hard to beleave the loach's attacked them as I have mine in my fry tank. The damage was more than likely done after the fish died.

I took a sample of my tank water to my LFS last friday when i bought the fish and they said everything was perfect. I need to get a test kit but the LFS is an hour away, I just can't find the time. I ment to get a test kit while there but forgot.
Like I said i'm treating th etank with melafix, and i bought some myricine (not sure how to spell, the package is at the school with the fish) but haven't used it yet, I'm thinking I should give the melafix a cahnce?? I don't know.

What do I use to treat for internal parasites?

You will have to get your water tested fast, as test results can change daily, also I would recommend a water change, their is a med called clout in the US for internal parasites.

um, why were you treating with melafix in the first place? you never said. or did you mean you started using melafix after the deaths? just wanted to clarify

You said you asked the LFS to test your water before you got the fish and they said it was fine right? Does this mean these were the first fish in an uncycled tank? If this is the case, you probably have very high ammonia/nitrites in your tank which could easily kill your fish. Also, if you ask an LFS in future to test your water, ask for the exact results. Don't let them say it's 'fine' or whatever.

yea, i started after I had 2 dead fish and noticed another with inflamed intestines

A lfs I went too a few times tested my water once.

They only tested pH and said everything was fine since pH was good.

I had to argue to have them test ammonia...

And they lost me as a customer. Too bad cause although they has a very small selection, they had interesting fish.

Anyway, I found a muhc better place now that seels only fish and plants so I'm happy :D

My tank has been set up for 18 months, it was full of fish for over a year. I had a full comunity tank, mostly tetras. I had a snail problem, went to the LFS and tey sold me 3 of these fish they said would eat snails. I told them I had tetras and they said there should be no problem.
The first day there was one dead fish, didn't think nothing of it, sometimes that happens. I wasn't around sunday, monday all but 6 fish were dead, there eyes were sucked out by those snail eater, so I put them in my turtle tank, turned them into turtle food.
So my 55gal was down to 6 pencile fish about 1" long.
2 weeks ago I bought 10 zebra danios from wallmart and last week bought 12 neons, 6 cardinals, 12 white clouds, 4 black kuhli loaches and 2 chinese algea eaters (ottos i think???).
I think the disease was from the zebras, but the looked good all week.
Main thing is, the tank was established.
it's fully planted to, here's a picture

If you are buying this many fish at one time each week, I believe your problem is likely to be an ammonia and/or nitrite spike. Even if buying that many fish on seperate days over the course of one week does not allow nearly enough time for the bacteria colonies to catch up with your bio-load. That's my guess. Buying 34 fish for one tank (unless it is a very very large tank) in one week is bound to cause this type of problem.
