I have 8 goldfish iin a 700 gall Koi pond. One of them appeared to have a fluffy white growth on its flank, but was impossible to catch.
I later drained the pond for cleaning and separated out three goldfish which looked odd.
No1. Good colouring and otherwise healthy but for small blisters around the mouth. Since returned to pond.
No2. Had a yellowy, pus like forehead and had lost a lot of its colour.
No3. Ditto above but lost most of its colour.
Nos 2 and 3 are quarantined.

Photographs attached.

Any ideas folks

A good way to treat goldfish is with salt, I use plain tablesalt but for some people this causes problems. Tablesalt has got additives like iodine and calcium silicate which are not too good for the fish. Your local pet store probably has aquarium salt (not saltwater aquarium salt!) which is just plain salt (NaCl) I put 1 tablespoon full of salt to every 5 gallons of water in my quarantine tank, it really does wonders!
After 3 days do a 10% waterchange every other day. For the coloring try to feed them spirulina and water fleas they usually make the goldfish color quite nicely. What are you usually feeding them?

It looks like Hole In The Head desease, which is a serious problem and must be treated accordingly- this article discuses the two main causes of HITH;

http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=46081

It is most likely brought on by environmental problems in yoru situation as they are pond fish and unsuitable conditions can build up in ponds unoticed sometimes.
Do you clean the pond at all i.e. have you ever cleaned the muck out from the bottom of the pond before or after winter etc?
A 700gal pond does sound on small side for koi, most people recommend at least 1000gals for koi. If the pond is overstocked, desease will spread much more quickly unmoungst fish and can be much harder to treat- water quality problems are also far more likely to arise in overstocked or unfiltered ponds as well.
Is the pond filtered at all? How many koi do you have in the pond, and how big are they roughly on average? how large are the goldfish?

I dont see anything wrong. The red one has breeding stars and the white i cant see anything wrong?

Sounds like columnaris here is a fish with it mouth fungus.

And columnaris can grow on the gills.

Still dont see any thing wrong.
Can you get side pics please?

Are the fins red streaked? I still dont see anything wrong with the head, can you use paint and point to whats wrong?
Red streaked fins are a sign of high ammonia or nitrites or septiceamia.
Test your water and post back results for ammonia, nitrites, nitrates and ph.

What are they in now? If its an aquarium then a side pic through the glass as the fish swims would be better.

Ah, when i read "No2. Had a yellowy, pus like forehead and had lost a lot of its colour", i misread it as the fish actually had puss comming out of its forehead.

THERE'S NO PROBLEM ANYMORE.
The heron had 'em out of the holding tank!!! :grr:

I think I'll give up this Koi thing.
Too much like hard work.

Nice hobby though.

Good Luck everyone.
