Hey everyone lately i have been finding fish keeping more of a hassel than being a fun hobby.
My tank is always green.. ive tried every method.. and i dont have really any money to buy new plants or fish..
Im 17 and just got a job at buffalo wild wings hopefully i can spend some money into upkeeping my fish tank..because now im not that interested.. seing that im getting older and my parents wont buy me all my fish in stuff. man i wish i could go back to that day when i first set up my fish tank and got my first fish..when you dont worry about anything now i have to constantly do water changes and by chemicals and filters.
hopefully im not wasting your time.. just telling ya whats on my mind
please convince me to not drop fish keeping!

You are insane. Do not give up on your fishies! ;)

You have a freaking zebra plec! Erm.. that alone is worth keeping them. And if you do drop your fish, I insist you mail me your zebra plec.

Don't give up on the fishies!

thanks..yeah that plec is preatty cool... im just short on fundage and looking at all the other tanks.... how clean there water is and stuff..

And because he is cool I want one. ;)

Having a job will help with the money, and as long as you do a water change every week or two you should be okay.. I manage to do full time university and still have a social life while taking care of all of my fish..
Just set aside like, half an hour a week to clean the tank.

that is good.. the zebra i got from a friend he was moving.. cost him like 200 $$
Im hoping to buy some new fish soon.... and a whole bunch of those grass type plants to line the botton

and i want to get some of these.. do you know what there called i got the pic from jimboo

The thing I find with fish is that I lose intrest everysooften as well but then I get a new idea and get into the learning and researching thats my main fun in fishkeeping striveing to improve my tanks, haveing money makes that easier. Maybe you don't have the right fish for you too consider redoing your tank for a different kind of fish instead of selling it all off

I go through that every so often too.

I just lost interest in my tanks last week, because I got a new kitten and she was taking up a lot of my time. I kind of gave up on my betta's water changes for a few days. Then one night I saw my little boy looking at me with his loving little eyes and had to change their water immediately and give them my attention. <3

Are you in Buffalo, MN? I stay there a few times a year...friends live there...

Anyway, I recently went through this too...I had ick go through my tank and lost two of my favorites........I put signs up for the tank. Got tired of the mainenance, the algae growth...etc.

Well, I came back here to TFF and got 'into' it again. I started researching other fish...instead of getting rid of them all, it seemed interesting to look at others. Then decided that instead of getting rid of it, I'm gonna make plans to reDO it....as money and time allows, but I'm tired of the tank...it's time for a new look.

So I just went through this too..instead of getting rid of the big tank, I now have two more little betta tanks to care for! All if this made it fun again....

I moved from Newcastle to Glasgow 5 years ago and was moving around alot when I first got here so I had to give up my fish after keeping and working with them for almost 10 years.

I missed having them at first but then after a while I didnt really think about it.

After a few years I met my beautifull wife  and when we bought a house and we were settled I asked if I could get a fish tank and she said yes, she had no interest in fishkeeping atall but what can I say.....shes a good wife.

Once I got it she fell in love with it, now we go looking for fish together and she has learned all sorts of things about diseases, what fish can be kept with what and it feels great.

We often just sit on the arm of the sofa on a nightime with a glass of good red wine, starring into the tank and talking about our day at work just watching and feeding the fish.

She now wants a bigger tank aswell, maybe make it a marine and is currently helping me on the way to setting up my own Aquatics shop right here in Irvine scotland where we live........you just need the love of a good woman man! :D

...seriously though I think its good that you have realised that you are losing interest rather than just leave them all to die, I dont know if I was that mature at the age of 17 (Im 25 though).

My advice to you would be if you really dont feel you have time to care for them you should find homes for them but as for not having the money......water changes are free (pretty much) and Im sure if you needed medication for the fish and you were short your parents wouldnt see your fish die.

But if you do decide to take a break and re-home your fish.....DONT sell your aquarium because believe me......you'll be back into it sooner than you think!

Take some time, and sit down in front of your aquariums. Feed your fish, and maybe put like a sinking wafer in there. Then sit there for 30 minutes and watch your fish eat.

It goes pretty far!! :)

I've felt like that lately about giving fish up ,but instead ,I'm changing to sand instead of gravel ,just for a change, one tanks cleaned out ready for the sand to go in and I'm looking forward to doing it now.
