Well it's me again and im affraid i have messed things up again. :-(

In the past few weeks i have lost 2 gouramis (1 blue 1 kissing) and a little fish that sticks to the glass (like a plec). There doesn't seem to be any reason other then the water seems a little off colour but have done a partial water change and it had no affect. I woke up this morning to find my plec belly up at the top of the tank thinking he was dead i went to get the net, when i got back he was back at the bottom of the tank in his usualy spot sucking away happily to the tank. I'm confussed :S :dunno:

I have checked my nitrite levels and they are all ok, but i don't have my other levels to post. :/

Any ideas what is causing the weird behavior and deaths ?? it's obviously something i am doing wrong have added nothing new.

Please help if you can am at my wits end and don't know what to do. My LFS couldn't suggest anything. :-(

Well glad to her your plec is okay, but just to warn plecs especially young ones are very sensitive to water quality they don't like high nitrates or ammonia so you really do need to get test kits for these.

It may also be the quality of fish that is causing deaths if no other reason has occurred. its getting harder and harder to find good quality common fish such as gourami's, guppies, mollies due to commercial inbreeding don't beat yourself up to much.

Can you give up more details of your tank set up- such as size, other fish, how long its been set up!

Please post test results in nitrite, nitrate, and ph, also how big is the tank, how many fish and what type, and also your maintainance routine.

nitrite i checked and thats fine but the rest i can't tell you as i didn't have time before work so i just did that one.

The tank i have had for about 2/3 months (ish) (after cycling) and before that they all lived in a hexagonal.

it's 3x2x1.5 has a fluval 3+ and heater, i know fish are not what they were but i don't want to loose anymore, espc the plec as he is growning really well now and is a lovely colour

Thanks

How many gallons is that, the filter dosn't look adequate for the plecs as they are messy fish, this could be the problem.

Yeah i thought that but when i checked it it came in fine for the tank. I don't know the gallons im afriad my boyf sorted all that out for me.

Thanks

I would add another filter or replace the one with a much larger one say the fluval 4, and you could run your old one as well.

max capacity of that tank is 56 UK Gallons ;)

our 42UK gallons runs a Fluval 4+ AND an external Fluval 304.

I'd upgrade.

our 25 uk gal uses a Fluval 3+ but its really low stock

(3 tetras, 3 khuli loaches, and 2 small plecs)

** just checked the specs, the 3+ is rated upto 130L (28.5 UK gals). **
